Hong Kong chinese new year celebration in the village

Year of the Sheep

The small village of Shui Hau celebrates Chinese New Year traditionally, with firecrackers, lion dance and a feast. The community gathers in the village's central area, and each kitchen is steaming with contributions for the buffet. Lions dance between houses and catch their "lai sees" or red envelopes from tied up cabbages. Drums rapidly beat from morning 'til night, and there is no doubt in my mind that any lingering evil spirits have decided our village is no place to frequent this year.
